Course Outline
In preparation for the beginning of the course I want to suggest that you look at a range of video material - just click on the images to open a link. This material is deliberately chosen because it shows the Middle East in a way quite different from the usual media images. These just give you a taste, though I hope that it is a taste for more.

Welcome to this short introductory course on the International Relations of the Middle East. It is a huge topic to even contemplate addressing but by selecting and focusing on just three or four guiding ideas we'll be able to analyse the region and its politics more systematically than at first thought possible.
To that end this course will focus on four problems or 'conjunctures' in the current and recent international relations of the Middle East :
In turn this will give us opportunity to examine different kinds of material and employ a range of concepts and understandings. Thus we will ask about, for example,

Course Venue and Timings
There will be one group for this course :
Meeting on Tuesday evenings 7.00 -9.30pm –
on 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th March
Meeting at The GMB Learning Resource Centre [entrance almost opposite Roedale Rd junction]

Upper Hollingdean Road

Travel to the Hollingdean Depot : The closest bus stop is outside the Depot and serves the No. 50, 50U and 70 bus routes.
Alternatively you can come down Upper Hollingdean Road from Ditchling Rd which is served by 26, 46, 50, 50U, 70 and 79. It's a five minute walk.
Or, come up Hollingdean Road from Sainsbury's/Lewes Road/Bus Depot gyratory which is served by all the A.27 bus routes i.e, Nos. 23, 24, 25, 28, 29, 37, 37B, 48, 49, 50, 74, 78 and 91. It's a seven minute walk.
London Road railway station is a twelve minute walk to the Hollingdean Depot, up Springfield Rd, along Ditchling Road, and down Upper Hollingdean Road.
